Gizmo Guys a Winning Combination

The comedic value of the Gizmo Guys, Comedy Jugglers is enough to get all of you (that’s the entire family) to the theater. Even if this juggling duo dropped all those pins and couldn’t keep any balls in the air you would still get your money’s worth. This cynical reviewer was caught giggling from underneath the headphones while watching the promo videos in the office cubical.

When Trio Cavatina won the prestigious Naumburg Chamber Music Competition last year, the ensemble earned the opportunity to premiere a new work by eminent American composer Richard Danielpour at Carnegie Hall— a piece commissioned specifically for them. The resulting piece, “The Faces of Guernica,” will be performed at the inaugural fundraising concert on August 6 for the Newburyport Chamber Music Festival’s 2010 summer season.

Volunteers Needed to Monitor Seabirds: Presentation and Training at Joppa Flats

We might think our local seabirds lucky because they have no oil spill to contend with in Massachusetts Bay or the Gulf of Maine. However, seabirds migrate, and many face challenges we cannot predict. Disasters, both natural (e.g., hurricanes) and human induced (e.g., oil spills), can affect wildlife populations, but to what degree? Having baseline data is crucial to understanding if the health of our marine wildlife is losing ground, gaining ground, or simply holding steady.

“…I paint mostly from memory using instinct to guide my painting process.” It would seem that all neurons are firing properly in the brain of Lully Schwartz. To look at her images one is immediately transported to those magical places in our own memories: a barn lazing in warm sunshine that seems to buzz with the summer sounds of country insects, a farm house with such a big sky that we are tempted to lie right down and start pointing out Rorschach images as we did when we were young, or a seaworthy vessel whose varnished sides seem to playfully reflect the gently lapping waves – the sound of which calls us to our own favorite summer places, wherever they may be.
