Holding the light

Do your mid-winter days need a little color?  Wander in to the gallery at the Firehouse, Market Square, Newburyport between February 3 and March 21, 2010 to see the paintings of Elizabeth Harty. These colorful acrylics are sure to brighten your day. This exhibition is free and open to the public between the hours of 12N and 5PM, Wednesdays through Sundays (or until curtain).

Ms. Harty is a painter who works in acrylic and mixed media, incorporating the technique of collage.  She also uses this technique as a printmaker with the collagraph and monotype.  Harty allows the printmaking, painting and sculpture to influence each other and states that her inspiration comes from many places: nature, people, dance, music, textiles, costumes and calligraphy from various parts of the world. "Working in an abstract or impressionistic style allows me the freedom to experiment with these relationships until I am satisfied with my creation," says Harty.

Radiant Glow

This particular show includes The Lantern Series, paintings that are based on abstracted images inspired by lanterns using color to evoke light. Says Harty:  "The light expresses a connection to the mystical and contemplative. It celebrates, it rejuvenates and it is ceremonial. "

So come to the Firehouse and be rejuvenated!
