NEF RECEIVES $5,000 GRANT FROM THE PROVIDENT BANK - As part of its commitment to the communities it serves, The Provident Bank and its Provident Community Foundation have awarded a $5,000 grant to the Newburyport Education Foundation (NEF). The Provident Community Foundation grant recipients in Q2 2011 and their efforts supported are:
Jeanne Geiger Crisis Center – The Provident Community Foundation grant of $5,000 will support the Crisis Center’s Domestic Violence High Risk Case Response Team. Formed in 2002 following the murder of Amesbury resident Dorothy Guinta Cotter, the Team identifies and intervenes in the most dangerous cases of reported domestic violence in greater Newburyport. Now in its seventh year, the Team has demonstrated highly favorable outcomes, including no homicides and a minimal two percent re-assault rate.
Newburyport Education Foundation (NEF) – The $5,000 Provident Community Foundation grant will help NEF continue its Comprehensive Literacy initiative and the successful “Literacy Closets” program. Pentucket Education Foundation – The Provident Community Foundation grant of $5,000 will be used to upgrade and expand the wireless technology capability at Pentucket Regional High School. Once installed, the new infrastructure will allow the school to incorporate 21st century wireless handheld technology learning tools and programs in classrooms.
The Pettengill House – Experiencing an increase in volume of calls for its services, The Pettengill House, Inc., a non-profit community social service agency serving greater Newburyport, will use a $5,343 grant from The Provident Community Foundation to replaced its outdated phone system with a brand new communication system from Net Technologies, Inc., including nine new phones.
