ENTERTAINMENT IN ABUNDANCE FOR YANKEE HOMECOMIN

Downtown Newburyport is soon to be abuzz as Yankee Homecoming kicks-off on Sunday, July 31st, with 8-days of wonderful music and entertainment throughout our beautiful city.  Whether you enjoy the sights and sounds from your blanket in Waterfront Park or find yourself a comfy bench in Market Square or along Inn Street, we have three venues with something for everyone.

Grab your coffee and catch some tunes early; performances begin between 10:00 and 10:30 every day or, if you work in and around downtown, lunch outside with friends and co-workers or take a mid-day stroll to one or each of our stages.  Stay for a song or two or all afternoon; the melodies play on through 6:00, capped off by the National Anthem in Market Square.

Connie Salerno, our Downtown Entertainment Chair, has brought together an amazing array of talented musicians and performers; too many to name and all worthy of an audience.  Thursday, August 4th is Americana! Day; a whole day dedicated and in tribute to the U.S. armed forces and our veterans, with special recognition for the 182nd Engineer Sapper Company from Newburyport.  All of the music for the day has roots here in America and you won’t want to miss the Patriotic sing-along at 5:30, in Market Square, hosted by the Boomer.

Calling all wind instruments!  Also on Thursday, August 4th, a unique and exciting opportunity for area musicians to join the Seacoast Wind Ensemble, from Portsmouth, NH, for an open practice on the Waterfront stage, and then to play a live concert immediately thereafter.

On Friday, August 5th, the world-class Boston String Quartet will perform throughout the day and treat us to their new arrangement of the National Anthem at 6:00, in Market Square.  This company of highly-acclaimed musicians is dedicated to educational outreach to those interested in broadening their musical knowledge.

Start your Saturday, August 6th, with a muffin and the New England Harp Orchestra, on the Market Square stage from 9:30-11:00 a.m.  And just as evening sets, in that same spot, Ben Carter will sing our National Anthem, followed by hugely-talented guitarist, Archie Bielby, who plays a version of the Star Spangled Banner not heard since Hendrix.  Interesting side story about Archie; he was born in the same hospital as the late, great Jimi Hendrix, on the exact month and day, not year, as Jimi.

Just a few highlights, so please visit the Yankee Homecoming website: www.yankeehomecoming.com or purchase our Program Book for a complete schedule of dates and times for all of the performances.  We’re certain you won’t be disappointed and, even more so, that the week will have you humming, singing, tapping your feet and maybe even dancing.  And we’re sure you’ll be entertained!
