The Band of Brushes present Capturing Light
June 27 – July 10, 2011
Reception: Friday, July 1, 20117 -9 PM
Monet, Boudion, Manet and Pissarro all traveled to the South of France to capture the brillant effects of the ever changing daylight on the landscape.
These artists painted ‘en plein air’, a French expression meaning in the open air. This practice of artists painting outdoors gained in popularity with the invention of paint in tubes. The Band of Brushes did not get to travel to Southern France for their newest show, but to local areas.
Working to capture this ellusive light is the essence of this new BOB exhibit at the NAA. These artists share a love of nature and plein air painting in oil, watercolor, pastel and acrylic mediums. They meet weekly to paint outdoors at beautiful North Shore and seacoast locations including Sandy Point at Plum Island, Maudslay State Park in Newburyport, Cox Reservation in Essex, Crane Estate in Ipswich, Halibut Point in Rockport and Stackyard Road in Rowley.
The artists – Dorothy Aham , Fran Butsavich, Grace Daly, Sarajean Graham, Dale Partiss Greene, Christine Molitor Johnson, Betsy Lewis, Pam Perras, Carol Potvin, Cynthia Stern and Robin Thornhill -reside in various cities and
towns north of Boston including the Newburyport area, Seacoast area and Southern New Hampshire.
