Dewey & Friends Literary Adventure

By Christin Walth

Dewey Stanley knows good literature as well as where to get a good snack in Newburyport. Her favorite place to do both is the Book Rack on State Street, where Steve, Rich and Michele, welcome her with open arms (and dog biscuits.)

This week, Dewey decided to let some of her good friends in on the “find” that is the Book Rack. As a frequent “shopper”, Dewey knows to go straight to the counter to get the latest recommendation. Rich knows to nourish her tummy as well as her mind…

After a tasty bit, Dewey peruses the latest canine titles.

On this visit, she decided to bring her young friend, Norman Acquaviva, to expand his literary horizons (and get a treat.)

Norman, a 10-week old mini Labradoodle is too short to appreciate the adult titles and wants puppy books instead.

Dewey introduces Steve, the manager of the Book Rack and a leading member of the Dewey Stanley Fan Club, to Baby Norman — then kind of wishes she hadn’t….

Next, Dewey brings in her boyfriend, Abner Barlow. Once again, when Rich starts divvying up the treats, Dewey kind of wishes she hadn’t brought a friend.

Steve reassures Dewey, “You are still the best treat eater, Dewey.”

It appears Abner doesn’t share Dewey’s literary tastes.

Finally, Dewey brings in her best friend, Ichi. As an avid treat beggar and reader, Ichi was the one who introduced Dewey to the Book Rack back when Dewey was a baby.

Michele brings them over to see the latest titles…

And Rich presents Dewey with her weekly tab…

Just kidding Dewey! The treats are always free! But you have to leave – so you can come back again later with more friends!

Steve, Rich and Michele of Newburyport’s Book Rack welcome children, dogs and drinks, and want to remind you:

Outside of a dog, a book is a man’s best friend. Inside of a dog it’s too dark to read. – Groucho Marx
