Newburyport Artist Herb Crooks Presents “Plum Island, the Marshes, and More” at Mass Audubon’s Joppa Flats

Herbert Crooks, an artist as colorful as his work, will present an exhibit of his paintings, “Plum Island, the Marshes, and More,” at the Massachusetts Audubon Society’s Joppa Flats Education Center from September 19 through October 31, 2010. Herb will introduce his work at an opening reception on Sunday, September 19, at 2:30 p.m. at the Joppa Flats Education Center. The reception on September 19 is open to the public free of charge. A portion of all purchases made during the exhibit helps to support Mass Audubon’s Joppa Flats.

Herb Crooks is a Newburyport native and lifelong resident who once fished for a living; he now teaches Tai Chi and co-owns Mad Martha’s on Plum Island. Inspired by the natural beauty of his native surroundings, Herb began painting in earnest in 1989 and hasn’t looked back. He has studied under noted artists Richard Gibney of Rockport, Donald Demers of Elliot, Maine, and Richard Burke Jones and Robert Scott Jackson of Newburyport. With many of his works now held in private collections, his new paintings may be viewed at the Newburyport Art Association, where he is an active member, as well as at Sisters We Three and his home studio.
