Bill Gette, Sanctuary Director at Mass Audubon’s Joppa Flats Education Center, will present a slide program and lecture, “Bhutan: Land of Dragons,” at Joppa Flats on Wednesday, September 29, at 7:30 p.m. This program is open to the public, appropriate for all ages, and free to Mass Audubon’s members; non-members are asked to pay an admission fee of $4. No pre-registration is required.

Bill Gette has led two, three-week trips to the Himalayan kingdom of Bhutan in South Asia in the springs of 2008 and 2010. A dedication to environmental protection has helped guide Bhutan in a 20th-century shift from being known as one of the most isolated countries in the world to being confirmed as one of the happiest countries in the world. During his presentation, Bill will share his photographs of the people, magnificent religious art, architecture, and beautiful wildlife of this extraordinary country.

Bill Gette developed his passion for natural history education as a teen while working at the National Audubon Society’s Audubon Camp on Hog Island, Maine, and while studying Loggerhead Turtles on Little Cumberland Island, Georgia. A skilled teacher and field naturalist, Bill has been leading domestic and international natural history expeditions for the Massachusetts Audubon Society since 1986. He has led very successful trips throughout the United Sates and Central America and to Canada, Kenya, Tanzania, Zambia, Turkey, Bhutan, and the Galapagos Islands.

The Massachusetts Audubon Society is the largest conservation organization in New England, concentrating its efforts on protecting the nature of Massachusetts for people and wildlife. Mass Audubon’s Joppa Flats Education Center, located at One Plum Island Turnpike in Newburyport, is a natural history education and visitor center that is open to the public Tuesday through Sunday and Monday holidays, 8:30 to 4.
