Who Wants a Cupcake? Part II

Rhonda Weisheit was beaming as she addressed the crowd of around 70 people that crammed into her small shop. Ron hung back in the kitchen and readied the props, smiling ear to ear as his beautiful wife explained the “plan”. The shop was not only full of excited customers, but also of cupcakes. Really amazingly delicate and charmingly decorated little wonders… all waiting to be THROWN??!!! Yes, in a effort to win over producers and secure a spot on ‘Cup Cake Wars’, the Weisheits were willing to throw caution and cupcakes to the wind…

Pralines counter filled with beautifully decorated cupcakes

That was the plan from the beginning. When Ron and Rhonda got the call from the Food Network on Friday they were told that they had been “discovered” during the course of “research” for the new hit show. The Weisheits assumed that it had to do with their recent win in for Best of Boston, but the producer who spoke with Rhonda over the phone said “Oh congratulations, we did not know that”. Whoever the network’s spies are know what we Newburyporter’s have known for sometime now, Pralines is simply the best.

There were guidelines for the audition tape, it needed to be 3-5 minutes long, and they were told to make it “crazy and fun”. Ron and Rhonda wanted to show the enthusiasm of their local clientele, and with the help of local videographer Ben Knight filmed for over 30 minutes. That will be cut and carefully edited into the 3-5 minute finished piece. See below for a snippet of what we caught. Check out our Facebook Page for more video and some fan comments and well wishes.

Praline’s finds out in about a week if their video audition made the cut. If they do get on the show they will have to fly to California in September for the taping of their first ‘WAR’. Fingers crossed for this local favorite!
