Teen Theater Arts Workshop
Hurry. It’s not too late to extend your summer fun and learn a few things too!
The Firehouse Center for the Arts is pleased to be able to offer a week – long intensive program in theater, performance, and playwriting for advanced students, age 14 – 19 years. The Teen Theater Arts Workshop will be taught by playwrights Nikole Beckwith and Gregory S. Moss Monday through Friday, August 9 – 13, 2010 from 9AM-2:30PM daily at the Firehouse Center on Market Square in Newburyport, MA. Enrollment is limited but it’s not too late to enroll.
Areas of instruction will include Advanced Acting Technique, Improvisation, Elements of Stage Craft, Scene Study, Self-Scripted Performance, Play writing for Actors, Ensemble Play-making and Audition Technique.
Instructor Gregory Moss is a playwright and performer. He received his MFA in Playwriting from Brown University, and is a 2010-2011 Jerome Fellow in Playwriting. Recent acting credits include the world premieres of Sheila Callaghan’s That Pretty Pretty at Brown University and Neighborhood 3: Requisition of Doom at Playwrights’ Rep. His own plays include punkplay (Clubbed Thumb, NYC); Steppenwolf Garage, Chicago), Orange, Hat & Grace (Soho Rep, NYC).
Joining Moss will be Nikole Beckwith, an actor and playwright working in New York City. She’s an emerging writer in residence at The Public Theater, an Ensemble Studio Theatre Youngblood alum, and is currently collaborating with The Old Vic Theatre’s New Voices program in London. Performance credits include LAByrith Theater Co, Law and Order Criminal Intent, EST, New York International Fringe Festival. Beckwith was recently named one of the “Freshest Faces of 2009″ and nominated for an Independent Theater Award for her originating role in Josh Conkel’s MilkMilkLemonade.
The Firehouse’s Director of Productions Kimm Wilkinson says, “We are thrilled to be able to offer this opportunity to aspiring theater-talent of the North Shore. Nikole and Greg are unbelievably gifted and more than generous to share their knowledge and experience with the Firehouse community. This may be the chance of a lifetime for some and the best part of summer 2010 for all participants – a small, intimate class with two top instructors is a chance that doesn’t come along every day.”
The cost of the workshop is $199 per student. Although the workshop enrollment will be limited in order that students may maximize their time and experience with Beckwith and Moss, there are still places available. For more information please call Kimm Wilkinson at the Firehouse Administrative Offices (978/499-9931) or send her an e-mail (kimm@firehouse.org).
