Yankee Homecoming Fireworks 2010, Where you there?

Kudos to the Yankee Homecoming organizers! It was a fantastic show tonight. We caught the lights from the new Clipper City Rail Trail with about a 1000 others! From our vantage point we could see that the Gillis bridge was packed as well as the new boardwalk leading to Cashman Park. From our perch (near the top of the stairs leading down to the boardwalk) it looked as though the show as being put on just for us.

Happy Yankee Homecoming week and hello from the Greater Newburyport Chamber of Commerce and Industry! Newburyport is alive with so much activity, music, friends, family, shopping, dining and summer fun! The Chamber and our members are certainly in the swing of things. Today kicks off our annual tradition of “Old Fashioned Sidewalk Sales” starting today and continuing through Saturday, July 31st! Enjoy old fashioned, outdoor shopping throughout downtown Newburyport, Port Plaza and the Tannery from 10 AM to 7 PM. In combination with Yankee Homecoming, Old Fashioned Sidewalk Sales entice locals and visitors alike, creating an enthusiasm for downtown activities that lasts well after the sales end!

Great Bay Open House: Bird Walk

Parker River National Wildlife Refuge is pleased to present for bid enthusiasts to observe some of these captivating animals at the Great Bay National Wildlife Refuge Open House. With USFWS biologists, participants will explore Great Bay trails on 1,000 acres of undeveloped Refuge shoreline. One may spot a range of birds at the Refuge; from large raptors, such as osprey and barred owls, to small songbirds, like the American goldfinch and yellow warbler.

Teen Theater Arts Workshop

The Firehouse Center for the Arts is pleased to be able to offer a week – long intensive program in theater, performance, and playwriting for advanced students, age 14 – 19 years. The Teen Theater Arts Workshop will be taught by playwrights Nikole Beckwith and Gregory S. Moss Monday through Friday, August 9 – 13, 2010 from 9AM-2:30PM daily at the Firehouse Center on Market Square in Newburyport, MA. Enrollment is limited but it’s not too late to enroll.

Wildlife Photographer Phil Ellin Exhibits at Mass Audubon’s Joppa Flats

North Shore nature photographer Phil Ellin presents an exhibition of his work, “Avians on Parade,” at the Massachusetts Audubon Society’s Joppa Flats Education Center, August 1 through September 12, 2010. The artist will introduce his work at a free opening reception on Sunday, August 1, at 2:30 p.m. at the Joppa Flats Education Center. A portion of all purchases made during the exhibit helps to support Mass Audubon’s Joppa Flats.
