Family Flyby: Dig into Geology! (Drop-in program)

FOR AGES 2 THROUGH 12 / INDOOR & OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES

  • What can I touch? Live pill bugs, millipedes, worms, and other soil-lovers!
  • What science can I do? Be an archaeologist and look for fossils in a mini dig! Be a geologist and learn how to take and read a soil sample! Learn how to identify minerals! Create a sand dune that can withstand erosion! Be a dirt detective and figure out which mystery soil came from Joppa!
  • What can I observe? Examine sand samples from around the world under hand lenses and microscopes! Insects and worms tunneling and burrowing in soil habitats! See the layers of soil from a core sampler!
  • What can I make? A sandy sea scape postcard! A pet rock! Soil and sand race cups!
  • What can I play? A game all about the rock cycle called Rockity-Rock-Rock-Rock! Be a volcano, be magma, but don’t feel the pressure! (Ha-Ha).

MINI PRESENTATIONS! (11:30am, & 1pm, 2:30pm) Learn how to make a Recipe for Soil! YOU add the ingredients and together we’ll see all the goodies that go into making GOOD soil!
