Louis Rubenfeld sits on the board of the Jeanne Geiger Crisis Center, which serves to “empower members of our community to live free from fear, intimidation, violence or the threat of abuse by providing support, advocacy and education”. As a board member, Louis is always looking for new and creative ways to raise funds for the center. Recently he complimented his friend Ronna Rosenblatt on a pin she was wearing and a new fund raiser was born.
Ronna runs Pinnovative a unique local company that designs specialized pins for charities to use for promotions. Ronna explained that the pin she was wearing was created by another fund raiser for domestic violence. Louis and Ronna then collaborated to re-use the meaningful design for Jeanne Geiger. Louis thought the pins might be nice gifts to send out as thank yous to donors.
Louis brought one of the pins home to his wife, Cindy, who wore the pin out and received many compliments. That gave Louis the idea that maybe Jeane Geiger should sell the pins as well as give them away. He helped to design a new card for the pins to be displayed on (as seen in the photo above). As the center was preparing for it’s annual fund raiser, another board volunteer was able to help Louis secure funding from the The Granite Group to underwrite all of the production costs. This generous gift has allowed for Jeanne Geiger to net 100% of the sales of the pins.
The pins were premiered at the annual “Jeans and Jewels” fund raiser that Louis and Cindy chaired. They were sold there and are now available on Jeanine Geiger’s website.
Louis tells Newburyport-Today that the pins will be available indefinitely on the website and at future fund raising events.
