Kim (on left) said that, “The revelation for me is how much I learn from the kids themselves, something new, what they like, I love the dialog and finding a new book that they will love”
Diane (on right) said “It’s a real community library, lots of kids and families so you can recommend stuff.” She added because we are right downtown “it brings everyone here, people are appreciative of what we do for them”

Missy and Kalla (age 4 1/2) are special friends to eachother and visit the library together often (Kalla’s mom is Kim Lively who owns Lively Kids on State Street). Missy shares that Kalla “loves to come there because it’s fun and cozy” Kalla is very in tune with her surroundings – and loves the books, especially ones about animals.

Steve is the new manager at the Book Rack. He told Eva that he likes that it’s the “little bookstore on the corner”. He wants to keep it vital and relevant to people in town. He is proud that they are a reference point for visitors and is always happy to direct people to places.
Eva was impressed with his ability to interact with each customer in a meaningful way. She said he had something to say about every book people were buying, from a book of fiction for an adult to a child picking up a copy of Amelia Bedelia.

Sheila lives around the corner and was proud to tell Eva that she buys all of her books at The Book Rack. She added that she also buys all of her presents and all of her cards. She is a Grandma now and used to shop for her kids there, is excited to now be buying for her grandchildren.

Paul who is the manager at Jabberwocky Bookshop said that he enjoys working in the shop. He said that there are great people in the store all the time and that they have a strong local clientèle.

We loved this beautiful shot Eva got of the wooden racks in the store.

Eva took this shot of the old entrance to the Newburyport Public Library. She told us that she loves the old Corinthian style. She said “I love that old entrance, thinking about all the great minds that walked through there”.

Lastly Eva took this fantastic photo of her sons (Ian age 7 and London age 5) as they read a dinosaur book on the floor of the library.
