Raising heart disease awareness, Team Tannery carried the AJH Healthy Heart Torch through four communities last week, receiving support from local civic leaders, heart disease survivors, and even a few friendly garbage trucks.
On Tuesday, the torch traveled to Newbury through wind, snow, and rain. But, that didn’t dampen spirits as local runner Rick Bayko and Physician’s Assistant Peter Shactman, Clipper Cardiology, delivered the torch to Joseph Storey, chairman of the Board of Selectmen, who, in turn, presented it to heart disease survivor Brownie Taylor, his family, and Nellie, his Golden Retriever.
On Wednesday, Team Tannery torchbearers Nancy McCarthy, Amy Mosca, and Theresa Soracco carried the torch seven miles to Rowley. David Petersen, chairman of the Board of Selectmen, presented the torch to heart disease survivors Joe Perry, Nancy Cobos, and Don Hovey.
A strong headwind could not hold back the torchbearers, this time joined by Dale Eckert, on Thursday, as they brought the torch to Georgetown. Town Administrator Michael Farrell presented the torch to heart disease survivor Sue Fraser, and declared it Heart Healthy Day.
Look for the torch this week, as it travels through Georgetown, West Newbury, Salisbury and Amesbury. Eat well, don’t smoke, and exercise!
