Planning for Yankee Homecoming 2010 is well underway and, while much of what you love about this more than half-century-old event remains the same, we also have a lot of new and exciting things in store for everyone!

This year you have the chance to be Yankee Homecoming’s first, official Town Crier! Nominate yourself, a friend, a family member or the leader of your civic/fraternal organization or club and then bring everyone together to campaign, campaign, campaign! Votes = $1 and all monies go to supporting the Yankee Homecoming parade. And, as the Town Crier, not only will you win some fabulous prizes but, you and your family and friends will lead the parade and receive a commemorative bell for the occasion. Nominations are due Saturday, February 6, 2010!! For additional information click HERE, please contact Geri Dorr at tpi5496@aol.com or get an nomination application here .

Yankee Homecoming has a new website! The address remains the same, www.yankeehomecoming.com, but the site has been completely rebuilt, with some fresh and modern features. The site will be “live” very soon and we hope you’ll tune-in and visit often for the latest on all things Yankee Homecoming!

The dates have been set for our two, major fund raisers; the Wine Tasting on May 15th at Nicholson Hall and the Motown Dance on June 25th. New to the wine tasting; the addition of Ipswich Ale-Mercury Brewing Company tastings, as well as a display of works from local artists. Plus, this year the Live Auction will feature a 6-day/6-night South Africa Photo Safari for Two; a trip of a lifetime! Matt Noyes, Meteorologist from NECN, is returning as our celebrity auctioneer for the Live and Silent Auction and the Dick Kaplan Band is back and is sure to entertain. And, let’s not forget, over 100 wines from Leary’s Fine Wines, as well as cheeses and hors d’oeuvres from area chefs and restaurants.

WNBP (AM1450 “The Legends”) will spin the tunes once again at this year’s Motown Dance so, throw on your funkiest garb and strap on your dancing shoes, and enjoy a fun night of music at the Mission Oak Grill. Door prizes and a prize for the best outfit will be awarded!! Information regarding both fund raising events can be found by visiting our website at www.yankeehomecoming.com.

As with years past, Yankee Homecoming would not be possible without the support of the community; individuals and businesses alike. There are many ways you can get involved. If you would like to become a volunteer, our meetings are held on the 3rd Thursday of every month at 7:00 at the Starboard Galley on Water Street in Newburyport. Please join us!

If you are an individual or business that would like to make a contribution to Yankee Homecoming, there are a whole host of sponsorship opportunities available. The Wine Tasting is seeking auction and food items for the May 15th event. Please contact the Committee Chair, Robin Johnson, at robinj204@comcast.net for information.

Or you can make a universal donation to Yankee Homecoming by contacting our General Chairman, Don Walters, at yh2010@comcast.net. On behalf of the entire Yankee Homecoming volunteer committee and our Board of Directors, we thank you, in advance, for your support!

We hope you are looking forward to Yankee Homecoming 2010 as much as we are and, in the spirit of our theme, “Come Together”, trust you will enjoy a weeklong of family fun, music, arts, entertainment, friends, great food, fireworks, a parade and the very best that Newburyport has to offer.
