We caught up with our friends at Newbuyport Pedicab during Invitation Nights and were happy to learn that they were back in their old digs over on Merrimac Street. They are subleasing some of the space from their pals at Plum Island Kayak who have taken over the spot from The Trolley Company, which we understand is now defunct. It’s great to see two fantastic local busnisess working together, we can’t think of a better pairing!

We caught up with Plum Island Kayak’s owner Ken Taylor who said he was thrilled to be able to give his business the exposure that this is new location will afford him. He was previously located behind the Chamber of Commerce, and it was hard to have the visibility that the business needed. Ken also added that he is happy to be able to expand a little an offer some retail shopping for his customers. He is now able to sell equipment out of his new space.

Plum Island Kayak offers tours throughout the Newburyport area, including Plum Island Sound, The Parker River Refuge, and Joppa Flats. They also have tours to explore estuaries, tidal flats, and nature watching tours where participants can encounter wildlife such as egrets, herons, eagles, seals, and turtles.
Ken is looking forward to settling in to the new space over the winter so that when his season starts in the Spring he’ll be ready to go.
Plum Island Kayak also provides:
- Paddles to the Isles of Shoals
- Bird Watching with Mass Audubon
- Full Moon Paddles
- Private Instruction
So by land or sea (or river), it looks like Newburyport is lucky to have two great local businesses operating tours in our fantastic city.
