Lots of people ice skating at Bartlett Mall

The Winter Carnival was a huge success! congratulations to the hard working volunteers to put on a wonderful event. Mother nature was kind enough to cooperate a and provide warmer temperatures and a sun filled afternoon. The Bartlet Mall was filled with families out enjoying the day.

WNBP provided music for the day, and it was a lovely addition to this year’s carnival. It really kept everyone smiling and in the mood to enjoy the festivities. There was plenty to take advantage of, including human sled dog races, games provided by the Newburyport Mother’s Club, sledding and ice skating, and horse drawn carriage rides provided by Colby Farms.

Kids sledding at the Winter Carnival

Sledding seemed to be the biggest draw for kids and adults alike. There was huge double sided run constructed for tubes and sleds. It provided a quick run down the western slope of the Mall, but folks could be seen sledding down every available hill, really spreading out and taking advantage of the large open space that Bartlet Mall provides.

There was another run put in place with a hay bale jump. It was clearly marked “Snowboards Only” but we saw only sledders taking catching some series air off the jump. Helmets seemed to be an optional accessory (insert woeful sigh here), but thankfully we know of no injuries.

Dogs at Winter Carnival

There was another accessory that seemed to be in vogue for the day, dogs! With or without winter clothing of their own, dogs seemed to be omnipresent at the carnival.

It was really another of those amazing days where we remember how fortunate we are to live in such a fantastic community. The snow covered pond, the horse drawn carriage, hot chocolate around the firepit, and families out skating and sledding together. It just doesn’t get any better. Hope we saw you there!
