5th Annual Merrimack River Eagle Festival
Parker River National Wildlife Refuge and Massachusetts Audubon Joppa Flats Education Center are proud to cosponsor the fifth annual Merrimack River Eagle Festival!
The festival will be held on Saturday, February 13th, from 9:00-4:00pm, with activities scheduled in and around Newburyport. All activities are FREE of charge, so come celebrate the return of this amazing bird!
This year’s activities will include:
Eagle Hot Spots
9:00 – 4:00
Naturalists will show you Bald Eagles from sites along the Merrimack River. Maps will be available the day of the tour at all festival headquarter sites. All ages welcome.
Eagle Tours
9:00 – 2:00
Tours start every half hour and take 1 ½ hours to complete. Advance registration is required. Please call 978-462-9998 for availability. All Eagle Tours depart promptly from the Newburyport Chamber of Commerce at 38R Merrimac Street. Recommended for adults and children age 6 and over.
Live Eagle Demonstrations
10:30am and 1:30pm
Tom Ricardi of the Massachusetts Bird of Prey Rehabilitation Facility presents two educational programs for all ages at Newburyport’s City Hall featuring Bald Eagles and other raptors. First come, first served.
Family Fun
9:00 – 4:00
At the Parker River National Wildlife Refuge Headquarters: Make an eagle button, dissect an owl pellet, watch an eagle movie, and meet live owls provided by Mass Audubon’s Drumlin Farm.
At Mass Audubon’s Joppa Flats Education Center: Have your picture taken with a raptor; participate in family nature activities; observe a menagerie of rehabilitated raptors provided by Mass Drumlin Farm.
Eagle Festival information will be available at all festival headquarter sites from 8:30 to 4:00
