5th Annual Merrimack River Eagle Festival

Saturday, February 13, 2010

Presented by: Mass Audubon’s Joppa Flats
Education Center and The Parker River National Wildlife Refuge

Eagle Festival LogoIn February, when everything else is cold and asleep for the winter, the Newburyport area along the river is alive with the spectacular sight of wintering Bald Eagles flying, fishing, and sitting in the sun – and people want to see them. At the Eagle Festival, your local bird experts (staff and volunteers from Mass Audubon’s Joppa Flats Education Center and the Parker River National Wildlife Refuge) find the birds, answer the questions, and offer special FREE events to eagle fans all day long, including:

- Guided eagle tours on buses departing from Newburyport’s Chamber of Commerce
- Onsite guides at eagle-spotting locations along the river
- Live eagle demonstrations at Newburyport’s City Hall
- Family activities and live birds of prey at both Joppa Flats and Parker River NWR headquarters

Here’s why you should show your support for this wonderful, happy event and become a Friend of the Merrimack River Eagle Festival:

- In each of our first three years, we have attracted more than 1,500 people to the festival’s events. Last year more than 2,000 people came and countless numbers have visited our website. And we always get GREAT publicity from local and regional media.
- All our contributing friends are listed in our Eagle Festival Guide as well as on our web site.
- A special section in our guide and on our web site will give visitors a list of Where to Eat – Where to Stay – Where to Shop, which will only feature our contributing friends.
- Since the Connecticut River Eagle Festival has been discontinued due to lack of funding, we are now the only Eagle Festival in New England!

To become a Merrimack River Eagle Festival Friend, all you have to do is fill out the application(click here!) and mail it in with a check for $50 before January 15, 2010.

If you like Bald Eagles, then join us to celebrate the ones who choose to come to Newburyport, just like you did!
