In spite of the frigid weather, the crowds came out on Friday evening to enjoy the hospitality of Newburyport merchants. There was live music provided by the Newbuyport Chamber of Commerce, and the tree beautifully lit Market Square. The shops throughout downtown and The Tannery all stayed open late to welcome shoppers and provided an array of treats, sweets, and libations.

Winter Invitation Night with WNBP

Newburyport Today was pleased to have been invited to join WNBP on for their live broadcast from Market Square. Newburyport is so fortunate to have a local station that comes out to support community events like Invitation Nights. They streamed Christmas music from the van that the crowds really seemed to enjoy and in between spoke to the crowds and described the scence on the street. It was so much fun to see the crowds and how excited they were to be “live on the radio” with us. If you haven’t checked out “The Legands” please do. You can stream them live, HERE.

Kids enjoying winter invitation night

We spyed Elves from The Tannery Marketplace’s “Elf Yourself for Charity” and a fun group of Newburyport kids who told us that they were out Christmas shopping for their families. The shops did a great job of decorating and their customers seemed very appreciative of their efforts. We saw a lot of shopping bags in peoples hands, so it was nice to see that more than just good will was flowing. Supporting the local economy should be be more than just a slogan, so glad that it appeared to be in practice!

Carolers during Winter Invitation Night

Out Strolling for the night were the folks from the Newburyport Ghosts and Lore Tours. We loved their ensembles, they fit right in with the fun reveling and holiday spirit that was more than just the evenings theme, but really the over all spirit of the night.

Newburyport Pedicab at Winter Invitation Night

And the Pedicabs were out! Adding to the festivities the pedicabs were adorned with tinsel and ringing their bells all around town. Passengers seemed thrilled to bundle up in the back for a fun ride up State Street. In case you forgot, Newburyport Pedicab is a community-based charitable business where drivers work for tips and all proceeds go to the Pan Mass Challenge.
