Skaters on ice at Bartlett Mall Pond

One of the nicest things about a cold snap is knowing that it means skating on Frog Pond is coming for the season. Frog Pond, as it is affectionately called by all who are in the know is located at Bartlet Mall. It was fantastic to drive by on Saturday and see all the skaters. With a storm for casted for Sunday, Saturday had that calm clear and crisp feel. perfect for a the first skate of the year!

The large ornamental pond with it’s steep sloping sides makes for the most picturesque scene. The skaters were framed beautifully by the bare trees and the smoky pre-storm sky. It was a great backdrop for this wonderful New England tradition. There were lots of families out on the ice, and we even spied a dog or two! It seemed to be a mecca for hockey players of all ages. Fun to see the parents teaching the little ones. Seeing everyone out there enjoying “The Mall” made us think of the winter carnival. Now with the snow on the ground, it really seems like it’s just around the corner. Get out there, enjoy!
