Thanksgiving in Newburyport – What’s for Dinner?

If you’ve been reading Newburyport Today for a while, you’ll know two things about the What’s for Dinner articles.

1. We really like to cook, especially for friends and family

2. We really like to use local ingredients

With a house full fo relatives and friends, all arriving from everywhere, it was the perfect time to show off the bounty of beautiful fresh food that we in Newburyport are fortunate to have at our fingertips. We started on Sunday with a trip to the Newburyport Farmer’s Market to procure some fantastic vegetables.

Thanksgiving Brussel Sprouts

From Arrowhead Farm we found brussel sprouts, from Heron Pond, lovely French radishes and butternut squash. Middle Earth Farm had lovely swiss chard, and baby leeks. All were featured prominently in our menu. In our house we like to start with seafood, “it’s a New England thing”. So off we went to David’s Fish Marketwhere we purchased the ingredients for our first course, which was a trio of New England Seafood. We had roasted squash and lobster risotto, a crab stuffed mushroom, and a baked oyster.

We felt fortunate to be able to order a fresh turkey from Bucciarelli’s Butcher Shop. Our turkey was a free range hormone free bird. The rest of our meal was rounded out with wine and cheese from Grand Trunk Imports, and pumpkin whoopie pies from Chococoa Bakery. It was a great day of food and friends, laughter and fun.

It was easy to shop locally and support all of our great merchants and farmers. We hope you did as well! One of the many things we are thankful for this year is the wonderful community we live in.
