Last year more than $30,000 was raised by the NEF Auction and all the money went directly into the Newburyport Public Schools to support technology upgrades and renewal, literacy closets, the Virtual High School, science labs, and more. This year the NEF continues to raise money for these initiatives as well as the new Nock Music Lab, a state-of-the-art laboratory in which all students have hands-on experiences learning about and composing music. The goal of the auction this year is to raise even more money for the Newburyport Public Schools.
There are numerous ways that the community can contribute to the auction. Last year donations included tickets to events, vacation opportunities, lessons for sports activities and skills, professional services, parties, home-cooked meals, crafts, artwork, wine, food, toys, and much more.
“For donors this is a rewarding way to benefit the school community,” said Tracey Hurst, NEF Board member and organizer of the auction. “Parents and community members can contribute unique gifts to help the schools and broaden the learning experience. Businesses and organizations get exposure for their business or organization while helping the schools.”
Last year’s inaugural auction was a tremendous success not only benefitting the schools, but a fun community event that gave people a jump on their holiday shopping.
“People came to the first auction, had a lot of fun, and left with great gifts for the holidays,” said Hurst. “All the money raised goes directly to benefit the children of Newburyport. It really is a great event for everyone.”
