Newburyport Today is welcomes back local photographer Mariah Gale for her weekly post. Please look for Mariah strolling around Newburyport snapping photos and asking “what’s the word on the street?”

Diane Gronbeck stuffing a scarecrow

Diane Gronbeck, owner of The Brass Lion, on Inn Street, makes fall decorations outside of her shop. "They're for the festival," she says. They're a great, festive addition to the square, which is already adorned with hay and pumpkins.

Tucker the dog

Tucker Moran, a Boston terrier, walks downtown with his owner, mother and daughter Cindy and Julie. "We're having a mother, daughter, and Tucker lunch at the Purple Onion!" Cindy says. "He's just about to turn two," Julie says, referring to Tucker.

Oliver wearing a Newburyport sweatshirt

Oliver, 2, stops to smile for our camera in the square. "He's from Newburyport, of course!" his babysitter said, and we could have guessed that from his great sweatshirt. Representing a great town.
