Danny: You look like you’re ready to buy a bike.

Woman: Oh, I’m just kicking tires … what’s the story on this one?

Danny: 2007, custom built, won Best of Show in Boston.

Woman: Nice, very nice. (long pause while perusing) How much you asking?

Danny: $35 thou, half of list.

Woman: Umm – I can see you’ve put a lot into it. Why are you selling?

Danny: My wife. It’s either my wife or my bike.

Woman: Oh, that’s too bad.

Danny: Yeah … I’m gonna miss her … (quickly) the bike, I mean I’m gonna miss the bike …

Details: Saw this one in Market Square, a real beauty, one of a kind. Won Best of Show in Boston; custom built in New Hampshire, 2007; 116 cid engine, 130 hp, 130 ft-lb torque, diamond cut powder coated fins; custom Extreme Machines rims; $70K invested, asking $35K. Motivated (by wife) to sell, will dicker. Give Danny a call at 978-356-4627. Serious buyers only … [ Danny, we forgot to talk about my buyer-finder commission … ;-) ]

Big Yellow/Blue School Bus: Take one big yellow school bus, rip out the kiddie seats, put in leather lounge seats, disco sound system, dance floor, lights, cooler, paint the outside a vibrant blue, and give it a catchy name. What do you get? The Mighty Bustonion Party Bus!

Mighty Bustonion Party Bus

It was a slow Friday night, it was getting late, and I was waiting in Market Square with another driver, Matt, to see what remaining action there was for the evening, when the Bustonian pulled in. Bobby, the smiling driver, was bringing a group up from south of Boston to finish out the night in Newburyport after a mid-trip stopover for dinner at a Chinese restaurant in Ipswich. Google carefully for bUstonian versus bOstonian – nice dress shoes but just not the same vibe.

So why is Bobby smiling so much, and what is he displaying so prominently on his right hand? Turns out Bobby works for the Celtics organization, and when they won their championship, everyone in the organization received an NBA Championship ring. Way to go, Bobby!

After we chatted a bit while his passengers wandered in and out of the watering holes up and down State Street, Bobby gave Matt and me a peek inside. Very nicely outfitted! BTW, there IS a dance pole, and yes, Matt just had to give it a spin. Seems the most memorable shifts happen when Matt is around – I’m still laughing.

Bike or bus, you never know what will come your way when enjoying Newburyport. Hang around – or is it “swing around” – for the fun!
