Newburyport Today is thrilled to welcome back local photographer Mariah Gale for her weekly post. Please look for Mariah strolling around Newburyport snapping photos and asking “what’s the word on the street?” This week she got some great photos of folks enjoying Yankee Homecoming.

Yankee Homecoming balloon man

Mr. Dee, "The Balloon Guy", made entertaining head adornment for Alex and Cam Dunn, and their nanny, Megan McCormick on Inn Street. "I'm a mosquito!", Alex said, as Cam, the goldfish, and Megan, the butterfly, enjoyed their own balloon creations.

Tommy Grant with his mom

Tommy Grant, 2 months, takes a quiet moment among the bustle in Market Square with his mom. "We're from Peabody", she said, and were down enjoying the music and festivities and visiting family!

Beach Sand Snowflakes

At the BeachSand Snowflakes booth, Holly Daniels and an assistant greet passerby. "Each snowflake is handmade with sand from your favorite beach," Holly says, and they were a big hit!

Helen Craib and Linda McGuire sit downtown during Yankee Homecoming

Helen Craib and Linda McGuire enjoy prime seating in Market Square. "We're enjoying the band!", and had the best seats in the house to do so!

Jack holding donation bucket for Jimmy Fund

Jack McCraven, and his assistant Little League coach, Tom Gustafson, collect donations on Inn Street for the Jimmy Fund. The team is volunteering for District 15, and "we're first in the district, and third in the state," Tom says.

Band players downtown Newburyport

Ashley, 17, Scott, 16, and Chuck Davis, 18, gather for an impromptu performance outside the green. "We just started playing together last week, and I've always wanted to do acoustic performance," Ashley says, "We've done really well, and we've only played three songs!"

Bruce Esposito and his dog sit downtown

Bruce Esposito and his dog, Gem, eat ice cream on the waterfront in the shade. "She's a rescue dog, and is a little bit shy...but she loves ice cream!" Bruce says.
