Doyle, who retired six years ago to southern NH, taught history at Newburyport High School for 37 years. He shares the distinction of being a published author from the history department at NHS with Jean Foley Doyle (no relation, but they were colleagues in the department).

City Councilor-at-Large Tom Jones thought he had a pretty good handle on the process of city government so he ran for City Council four years ago. At least that’s what he thought when he was on the receiving end of city government.

We created Newburyport Today to showcase and promote our City, so it seems a little strange to be promoting ourselves here, but we won an award today, and are so thrilled to be honored in this amazing way! I say “we” because Newburyport Today is a group effort that requires the good will, writing skills, and general cooperation of so many wonderful people, offices, and community groups.

Kerri (Gallagher) Fowler is not a big woman, she’s five-foot-six-inches and usually weighs about 120 pounds. Still, every summer for the past three years she has slogged 15-pound bags of ice, 30 pounds of Angus beef, countless hotdogs and bits of steak down to the river.

Ghlee Woodworth is 12th generation Newburyport. She went away for a while, to college and to see the world as a volunteer with the Peace Corps, but when she was done seeing all she wanted to see, she returned home.
