Ralph Ayers dubs himself a “local yokel,” but “yokel” doesn’t fit rhythmically with a day of the week so we’ll call him a Townie. Ayers is probably best known for his columns in the Daily News and his tireless efforts to help plan and execute the yearly Yankee Homecoming celebration.

Newburyport Today stopped by the Literary Festival to see all that was going on. The whole downtown was filled with people, so wonderful to see! We stopped by the library, The Book Rack, and over to Jabberwocky Book Shop. Here are just a few photos of what was really a wonderful event.

We found local resident Orren Fox through Twitter and were immediately impressed. Orren is a 12 year old boy with a clear passion for animals of all kinds, chickens in particular. He chronicles his love through his blog, Happy Chickens Lay Healthy Eggs and provides a wealth of information about breeds, habitat, and temperament.

Donna Welch was not born in Newburyport but she has lived here for 55 years. All of those years she has spent being a volunteer for various Newburyport institutions, most notably the Anna Jaques Hospital Aid Association.
